Falling BEHIND for Lorenzo Carter?

0 Views 2 Comments

It has been a whirlwind for Lorenzo Carter recently.  For months many experts considered him a lock to Alabama.  Then in mid-June he takes a visit to Florida and follows that up the next weekend with trips to Notre Dame and Ohio State before heading to The Opening in Oregon.  It appeared the status quo was in place that Alabama was leading with Georgia being their main competitor.  Suddenly, out of the blue, Carter says that he was blown away on his visit to Florida and they are his new leaders.  To follow that up Carter who wasn't previously planning to go to UGA's biggest recruiting weekend of the summer, Dawg Night, announced that he was in fact going to Dawg Night.

So, where does Alabama stand at the moment.  It is my opinion that Alabama is like the first girlfriend.  He really likes Alabama and feels very comfortable in Tuscaloosa.  However, there are a lot of other offers on the table and he is not sure he is ready to make that big commitment.  Right now I would say we are still the favorites to get him to sign on the dotted line on Signing Day with UGA being the biggest threat and Florida attempting to gain ground.  Him naming Florida the leader is all part of a “post-visit high” in my opinion where the Gators undoubtedly showed him a good time and probably promised him the world as well.  I will be very interested to see what his reaction is to Georgia after Dawg Night where a lot of the Southeasts Top Recruits will be in attendance and all of the current UGA commits.  I am sure that Mark Richt and Todd Grantham will go above and beyond because he is the type of player they need to keep in state if they want to compete with us.

Lastly, one thing that could be working against us is our depth chart.  We are loaded at outside linebacker and have a chance to get Da'Shawn Hand and Christian Miller who both are probably more college ready then Carter at this point.  Regardless, Carter is definitely still a priority because he has “Clowney-like” athletic ability and potential.

Sorry UGA fans. Like Huckleberry said we have a glitch but I hope you enjoy my perspective.
And we have our first glitch from the new site. This blog was written for the Alabama site and we somehow have it "mis-routed" in the coding and it posted on the UGA site. Our apologies but still an interesting outside perspective from Alabama.
