Give a Tiger Stripe
This won't get me many fans within the Missouri Tiger fan base but I have very low expectations for the Tigers this year. However, in the SEC it is not uncommon to see some teams go from the top to the bottom or bottom to the top in only one season. For proof, just look at Missouri last year. They went from being near the bottom of the SEC in 2012 to the SEC Championship game in 2013. In 2014 I see the Tigers taking a big step back because they simply lost too much skill.
On offense the Tigers will miss the short yardage running threat of James Franklin, although Maty Mauk will be an upgrade in the passing game. However, he will not have Marcus Lucas, L'Damian Washington or Dorial Green-Beckham to throw to. Those three combined last season to be the most feared group of WR's in the SEC and one of the scariest in the country because of their combination of size and speed. The loss of Henry Josey is big too because he was a dynamic playmaker out of the backield, whether carrying the ball or as a receiver out of the backfield. On defense the Tigers lost their three best players in my opinion in Michael Sam, Kony Ealy and E.J. Gaines. There is also a lot of off the field controversy surrounding the Tigers.
With all that being said, the Tigers still have a lot of potential and could surprise. Maty Mauk is an upgrade at the QB position, Marcus Murphy and Russell Hansbrough are solid options at RB and Bud Sasser can help mentor an inexperienced group of receivers. The Tigers could suprise but they can't count on a ferocious defensive line and explosive playmakers, they are going to have to do it more with scheme and great coaching.
